When days are chaotic and life is unsure.
When we can’t see what’s around the corner.
When we feel grief, discouragement, heartache, loneliness, fear, anxiousness.
Stand in truth.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness”
Ephesians 6:13-14
This space is here to encourage you as you hold onto the unchanging, transformative, living and active word of God. As you seek wisdom, assurance, and peace; as you grow in faith and learn to be deeply rooted in Him - the One who is faithful, the Source of all goodness and light and life.
There is nothing else one can read that has the power and the authority of the word of God. This word alone is life changing, soul changing. This word alone stands true for ever, and works to transform us, renew us, reassure us. It brings conviction and reminds us of His mercy simultaneously. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Where we run for comfort, wisdom, and hope matters. When I seek comfort from worldly wisdom, it leads me further away from the deep waters of God’s goodness and kindness. It leaves me more desperate, more empty, more hopeless. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life…” John 6:68
Be on guard against the sneaky deception of the world by being thoroughly grounded in the word of God. Let it have greater weight than any other advice or counsel. Give it first importance when seeking wisdom, guidance, and hope.
Let the Bible be the measure to which is held every other piece of wisdom and every other piece of literature. It is the heart’s measure as well, as the Spirit uncovers things hidden deeply within the soul and brings them into the light of God's truth and perfect wisdom. Nothing else contains the riches that are found in God’s word. Nothing to study that would benefit the soul more. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Let the word of God dwell in you richly. Be so saturated by it that when the world comes crashing down around us and it’s hard to determine what is right and true, we are able to find our footing on the solid foundation of God’s word. When our ever changing feelings try to cause us to doubt God’s goodness and His authority, the Word reminds us that He is greater than even our hearts and gives us light to cut through the fog of self interest that clouds our judgment. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 You see, your enemy prowls around looking for someone to devour, and he knows the Word too. He twists it to confuse and cause doubt. The world will try to deny it, disprove it, or try to use it against us. But it’s our own deep search of the Word that will come to our aid to guide us and protect us from the enemy’s schemes. Press in, be deeply rooted.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8
There will always be distractions clamoring for attention, for time, for energy. It takes intentional, focused determination to press in. To make it a habit of reading the Bible and the search for a deeper understanding of the Lord through His word. To prayerfully come to the Word with a heart that is tender and ready to receive instruction from the Ancient of Days. Ask for Him to help you. Ask the Father for the desire to know Him better. Ask Him to grant you wisdom and discernment so you can know what needs to be re-ordered so you can spend mindful, purposeful time in prayer and His word. Pray for the worthless distractions of this world to fade away in the light of His glory and riches of grace and mercy. He is faithful. His word is a gift, a priceless treasure that we get to experience daily. He has given it to us in His kindness, and the Spirit opens our minds and hearts to know Him better through it. When everything else has gone, His word will remain forever. As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more. Psalm 103:15-16 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of the Lord stands forever.
Isaiah 40:8
